Scandi Byg appoints sustainability specialist and sharpens focus on low climate impact in construction
Scandi Byg has appointed Vania Mahdi-Waldorff as its new Sustainability Specialist. With this appointment, the company strengthens its work on data, insights, and the development of modular construction solutions with lower climate and environmental impact.
Sustainability is a core part of Scandi Byg’s strategy and an area in which the company is working purposefully to be among the market leaders. The ambition is to set new standards for how low the climate and environmental impact of new buildings can be while ensuring that solutions remain practical and buildable.
“Low climate impact construction requires both a strong data foundation and early involvement. For us, documentation is not just a requirement, but a core capability, and we see the market demanding this knowledge more than ever before,” says CEO Mads Seneca Simonsen.
He also points out that Scandi Byg is increasingly involved early in projects and helps shape decisions regarding material choices, technical solutions, and documentation, including compliance with DGNB, the EU Taxonomy, and other sustainability requirements.
“For us, it is not only about meeting requirements, but about continuously raising the bar for how construction can become more sustainable. We are constantly improving our methods, materials, and processes to make it easier in practice to build with a lower climate and resource footprint. This is where we believe we can make the greatest impact on the construction industry.”
To strengthen this work, Scandi Byg has now appointed Vania Mahdi-Waldorff as Sustainability Specialist. Vania holds a Master of Science in Building Design from DTU and brings more than 10 years of experience in sustainable construction. Most recently, she worked at MT Højgaard Project Development, where she handled a broad range of tasks, from strategic advisory services and sustainability assessments to the design of energy and indoor climate solutions.
She also has extensive experience with certification schemes and has contributed to the development of industry tools for life-cycle cost calculations, including LCCByg and BUILD’s service life table. Through her previous work, she has already developed a close familiarity with Scandi Byg. Vania will be based in Ballerup, though much of her work will take place in close collaboration with projects and partners.
In her new role, Vania will be responsible for developing tools to monitor Scandi Byg’s emissions and strengthening the company’s data foundation across projects and production.
“My role will be to identify the areas where our climate impact is greatest so that we can focus efforts where they matter most. It is about collecting knowledge and data in a more systematic way, enabling us to further develop the solutions and processes we already have in place.”
In addition, she will support ongoing work related to certifications and documentation, including DGNB, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, and the EU Taxonomy, where Scandi Byg has developed its own approaches and templates to work systematically with requirements.
“Scandi Byg is an exciting workplace because it has a strong foundation in timber construction. I already know the company quite well and look forward to becoming part of the team and helping strengthen documentation and quality assurance even further. The goal is for customers to experience us as the partner that makes it simple to build with ambitious sustainability goals, even when requirements are complex. It is about making strong processes even stronger for the benefit of both customers and partners.”
